Here comes the snow!

Please remember – if there is an issue with snow removal, refer to this guide, and then if the problem is outside of the guidelines, call 311 and report it.  If you wish, follow up to me as Councillor with an email and with the case number assigned by 311.  If you call me first, I end up calling 311 anyway, so it is faster to call the call centre.  I have found snow operations to be very quick to respond to 311 calls.

Update final – parking ban lifted.

All P1 roads have been plowed and salted, although surface conditions may vary with persistent flurries. Be aware there may be some slippery section. Salt crews are currently inspecting and salting where required.

75% of P2 roads have been cleared and work will continue today on push back and clearing shoulders.

P1 Arterial and P2 Transit sidewalks have been cleared although all require another pass to clean up from flurry activity and also require salting. This work is on going and expected to be complete by late afternoon.

P3 local sidewalks are 60% cleared and expected to be completed by late afternoon.

Bus Stops have had preliminary clear and more thorough clear will begin overnight.

P1 roads: 3 hour turnaround times and clear 12 hours following end of snowfall
P2 Roads: Cut Throughs for access after 10cms accumulations and cleared within 24 hours following the end of snowfall

P1: main arterial sidewalks cleared within 12 hours following end of snowfall
P2: Transit sidewalks , cleared within 18hours following end of snowfall
P3: Local sidewalks, cleared within 36 hours from end of snowfall

4pm Snow Ops Update:

Forecast has 10cms of snow ending near midnight, with flurries until dawn.

Municipal Operations are currently engaged with plowing and salting P1 roads. Currently 3 turn cycle times are being met with no significant traffic delays. Roads are slush covered and will have slippery sections.

Clean up with P2 roads will begin at 11pm tonight.

Sidewalks in the capital districts were salted in advance of the snow, plowing and clean up will take place overnight.

The overnight winter parking place is in effect until further notice. In addition, vehicles interfering with snow clearing operations may be ticketed and towed at any time under Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Morning (Jan 16):

Forecast has 10cms of snow starting at noon and continuing until midnight.

Municipal Operations began anti icing operations overnight with Direct Liquid Application and pre salting on P2 streets. It is worthy to note that much of the salt applied Mon night in anticipation of black ice is still in place and will be of use.

Municipal Operations will ramp up with in house and contracted equipment as conditions required to meet service standards and afternoon commute. Clean up operations tentatively to begin late tonight.

In house sidewalks will be pre salted ahead of the storm.

The overnight winter parking ban will be in effect until further notice
