Driving conditions continue to worsen around HRM with snow and blowing snow causing whiteouts conditions and reduced visibility. Municipal Operations plow trucks are maintaining passable roads on the main arterials , however motorists should be aware of changing conditions.

Loaders and graders have been dispatched to start cut throughs on the local and residential streets to allow for access. Full clearing of these streets will begin later this evening once snow and winds subside.

Operators do reports some cars parked on side streets, which may cause hazards in white outs conditions. Residents are reminded that vehicles interfering with snow removal operations can be ticketed and towed at anytime under Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act. The overnight winter parking ban will be enforced until further notice.

Metro Transit has suspended operations until conditions improve.

Next update will be at 2.30pm and every 2 hours thereafter until conditions improve.

SERVICE STANDARDS

P1 Roads: 3 hour turnaround times and clear 12 hours following end of snowfall.
P2 Roads: Center line cuts for access after 10cm accumulation and cleared within 24 hours following the end of snowfall.

P1: Main Arterial Sidewalks, cleared within 12 hours following end of snowfall.
P2: Transit Sidewalks, cleared within 18 hours following end of snowfall.
P3: Local Sidewalks, cleared within 36 hours from end of snowfall.
