Quick note this Friday afternoon as I try and get this update out for residents. Just one big bit of news.
Tuesday at Regional Council was a historic day – the interchange is coming down! The Cogswell District public realm (transportation, parks) plans were approved. The size, shape and feel of the buildings are yet to come. Engagement regarding commemoration and placemaking, especially the focus on African Nova Scotian and Mi’kmaw communities will continue.
The public will have input into the Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) and Land Use By-law (LUB) amendment process. The timeline of this process will be announced in the next two months.
I am very proud of this work and thank all of the many members of the public, and the many consultants and staff that finally got this important project to the point where we can say – the interchange is coming down!

Halifax Burger Week

Halifax Burger Week is a city-wide burger eating phenomenon and fundraiser for Feed Nova Scotia put on by The Coast. Creative burger offerings have a set price of $6 or a higher price with the restaurant making the donation to Feed Nova Scotia from every burger sold. The passport guides patrons all over the city to new restaurants or old favourites alike, all in the name of burgers! The First Responders Society is an incorporated non-profit company established by firefighter, Andréa Speranza, in January 2006, for the purpose of introducing young women aged 15- 19 to careers as first responders primarily paramedics, police officers, and firefighters.
The ultimate goal is that the young women will leave with a sense of empowerment and the confidence to believe that they can achieve any goal, career or dream they desire.
You have what it takes, join us in 2019 for the experience of your life – July 7th to July 14th!
The camp is 100% free. In order to be accepted into camp you must write an essay on one of two topics; how you can improve someone else’s life that is less fortunate, or how you can improve your Community. Instead of paying cash, you have to do what you’ve proposed in your essay. The only limitation is your imagination.
This illustrates how hard work creates opportunities. It teaches to be thankful for what you have and to respect others that have less, it teaches the value of helping others.
