Newcomer Map, CN Bridges, public hearing Wellington Street, Canada Day, more

The temporary bridge under construction at Marlborough Woods.

Hi all, short note today with a long list of events.

First of all, thanks to Brandan Tarry and the mapping team at the ALP Faculty, School of Access NSCC, who shared this really cool “Newcomer Map” with me to pass on to you.  If you lived in Halifax a while, or all your life, you know where things are, but if you just arrive, it can be daunting to learn.  This project shows where things are folks would be looking for on an google maps style format. http://halifaxnewcomermaps.info

Residents are reminded that there is a public hearing Tuesday regarding Case 20774 Wellington Street 8 story building, details below.

Update came in the last couple days from CN about the Belmont-on-the-Arm and Marlborough Woods bridge rehabilitation:

“Canadian National Railway (CN) and Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) are conducting essential bridge and roadway rehabilitation work on the arch bridge structures at Belmont-on-the-Arm and Marlborough Wood from May 2019 to November 2019. The work involves a major rehabilitation of the structures and reinstatement of the roadway. Temporary bridges will be constructed to provide access to each neighbourhood during construction.Construction on the temporary bridges will begin mid-May and should be installed by early June. These are both single lane bridges with no weight limits. The bridges will be approximately 4.2m wide (13.5 feet) wide.
The rehabilitation project is expected to be complete in November 2019.
We will be working within municipal noise bylaws and work will occur on Saturdays and possibly occasionally on Sundays. CN understands that construction noise may cause disruption to residents who live in close proximity to the work and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We encourage all residents to observe posted signage. Please contact CN’s Public Inquiry line at 1-888-888-5909 if you have any questions.”

Finally I look forward to seeing you all on Canada Day, where I will be running from Grand Parade in the morning to Citadel Hill and afternoon in Public Gardens, handing out pancakes, cake and then cookies.  Remember to pace yourself!
