Elections, Elections, Elections….

I promised that my posts would be shorter, more to the point, more interesting. Here we go. Way back sometime after the Reform Acts in the early 1800s, the people of the United Kingdom came to expect that all free men would get a vote, in a riding, and that the person with the most votes would be elected to represent that riding in Parliament. Sleeping yet? Eyes drooping? Reaching for the channel changer? No, – read more –

Good Faith

I participate from time to time in Wikipedia the free online encyclopedia. This minor addiction started when I searching for articles on Nova Scotia music and culture, and found a horrible and misguiding article about Music of Nova Scotia on the wiki. I promptly re-wrote it and was hooked. Wikipedia operates because of the assumption of good faith: “Assuming good faith is about intentions, not actions. Well-meaning people make mistakes, and you should correct them – read more –

Jack Bonaparte…

He did not play the music I listen to. I only met him once or twice. We emailed back and forth, and it was mostly business. But he build the kind of show from the ground up that was growing regional awareness into the the music of Atlantic Canada. He was passionately committed to east coast culture of all types. He showed us that the regular every day Joe in the street can be reached, – read more –

Music Nova Scotia

Nice re-brand on the organization formerly known as MIANS. Check out http://musicnovascotia.ca I went to the mixer/press conference at the inventively named “Labbat Beer Institute.” Enjoyed watching Charlie A’Court. Drank half a beer. Ate some food. Chatted up my former fellow Board members and many musicians and government folks. It was nice. Must remember not to crack jokes in mixed company though. I said to Stuart “Yes, I am trying to get out and be – read more –

Oh my people.

Dream job. HRM or NSDTC hires me as a program manager for arts and culture. Make the interface work. Or alternately, NSDTC pays for the creation of a new culture sector strategy that I am one of the lead authors on. The biggest issue facing people from culture these days is how many times we, the arts and culture community, have told funders “this is what we will do” just to see the the budget – read more –

Of property, jobs and more…

I have been hired to be the instructor of the Centre for Arts and Technology Event and Talent Management course. CAT is a private college located on Spring Garden Road. I am very excited. Pay is good, hours are still part time, so no daycare for kids, which is wicked. Marnie nixed the idea of buying the house on the eastern shore. We are going to focus on getting the house here totally done then – read more –

Project Based Lifestyle

I realise more and more I need to fill my life with projects or risk bordom. I read a phrase the other day “If you want something to get done quickly, give it to a busy person.” I am at the opposite end of that right now, I need one or two big projects to come along to get me back to being busy, so that I return to being efficient and on top of – read more –

Things to do today….

I am pretty much bored. I have about 1 hour of work to do before the end of the week. I am thinking about driving to Ship Harbour today to look at a house/cottage/country home/money pit I want to buy. 2 hours down if I do. Maybe tomorrow I will reward myself with a trip. The blog looks good, at least on a Mac. I need to go see it on a PC. Next phase, – read more –
