Halifax Regional School Board’s move to have further discussion on the future of a new school for the south end of Halifax is encouraging, Education Minister Karen Casey said today, Dec. 1.

The school board, on Wednesday, asked Superintendent Carole Olsen to consult with the advisory councils of three schools which could be closed to make way for one new school. The superintendent will report back to the board early in 2007.

The minister has asked that the department’s regional education officer be included in discussions. Ms. Casey said she is confident the school advisory councils will ask for further consultation between the school board and the community before a final decision on a new school.

“I am sure the three school advisory councils would tell the superintendent they want further consultation, which I personally support,” said Ms. Casey.”
