Meeting to establish a Citadel District School Association

When – Thursday, February 8, at 7pm-9pm

– the Atlantic Room, Civic Centre, Halifax Forum Complex. Enter through Halifax Forum doors (Windsor and Almon) walk right around the concorse of the main rink to the end, follow the signs.

Who – Representatives from each feeder school in the Citadel area (formerly St Pats/QEH area) are invited to attend. Each school should send representatives from their Home and School/Parent Teacher Association or SAC.

Why – There are many common issues that face the schools in our area. Among others these are supplementary funding, all city music, capital planning (renovation, repair and replacement), French Immersion, and many more.

The recent fight to stop construction of the south end big box school until public consultation was undertaken has underlined many problems with the way public education is administered in Halifax Regional Municipality.

What – discussion of goals and objectives of the proposed school association, nomination of a drafting committee for by-laws of new association, scheduling of next meeting.

Issues that CDSA may become active in include pursuing reform of school board governance, multi year provincial funding for capital planning, new rules to ensure integration between HRM and HRSB and provincial departments when planning renewal or replacement of school facilities, community based planning process, and a new school closure process.
