Halifax Regional Municipality experienced flash flooding yesterday evening and overnight, with rain continuing this morning.
All residents asked to stay off roads and highways unless it’s an emergency.
Comfort Centres open at Beaverbank Community Centre and East Dartmouth Community Centre for affected residents.
HALIFAX WATER
Due to extreme rainfall, Halifax Water customers are reporting damage to their driveways and culverts. As a result, Halifax Water is experiencing a high volume of inquiries, and our response time may be delayed.

Given the safety risks associated with stormwater flooding undermining roadways and washouts, Halifax Water has requested that its field staff return to our depots. Crews will be redeployed tomorrow morning when we can visually assess the damage and triage our repairs on a priority basis.
To ensure the safety of our communities and our staff, please maintain a safe distance when Halifax Water staff or contractors are working in your area.
ROAD CONDITIONS
Following the overnight rainfall; the following roads remain closed to all traffic this morning:
- Bedford Highway; between Sherbrooke Dr. and Flamingo Dr. and between Dartmouth Rd and River Ln.
- Union St. between Bedford Hwy and Rowledge Ln.
- Hammonds Plains Rd between Gary Martin Dr. and Larry Uteck Blvd.
- Bluewater Rd at Hammonds Plains Rd.
- Many roads and highways throughout Nova Scotia are closed
In addition to the roads above, the storm has left a large number of rocks, gravel and debris on the roadways throughout the region. Drive with care and slow down should you encounter a flooded or debris covered area.
A number of vehicles that were abandoned on flooded roadways have also been towed overnight if they were impeding traffic. A large number of vehicles also remain in flooded parking lot and on private properties.
